Key Activities

The key activities of the Future Orchards 2012 program are to monitor demonstration blocks to provide data to compare the costs and returns of different fruit tree planting densities and to make that information available to growers.

These blocks are visited as part of an Orchard Walk program. The program is designed to demonstrate the issues growers face and four times each year, an orchard walk is conducted on the demonstration blocks.

Other aspects of the Future Orchards 2012 program are:

• A seminar program
• Overseas study tours
• Overseas 'exchange' program for young growers
• Orchard walk participation by national and international guests with expertise in various aspects of apple and pear production.
