Grower Action

We are sending a submission to Biosecurity Australia on 4 July calling for additional measures to be included in the policy on biosecurity for the importation of apples from NZ.

These measures are critical in order to provide greater protection of the Australian apple and pear industry against fire blight, European canker, leaf curling midge and other pests. BUT we need your help.

We need the Hon. Joe Ludwig, Minister for Agriculture to hear the community support for these measures.

We need our growers and members of the community to tell the Minister and local members of parliament (state and federal) how important this is.

The more voices that are heard, the more impact we will have and therefore chance of success.

The final policy will be handed down by Biosecurity Australia on 17 August, so we don't have much time.

This is what you can do:

  • Write to Minister Ludwig
  • Write to your local Federal Member of Parliament
  • Write to your local State Member of Parliament
  • Ask your friends and neighbours to do the same

How can you do this?

  • Refer to the document on 'what should I say?'
  • Click on this link to Minister Ludwig's email address and send him an email.
    Ludwig's email address is senator.ludwig@aph.gov.au
  • Refer to the document 'contact list for Federal Members of Parliament' for the email and postal addresses of your local Federal Member
  • Refer to the document 'contact list for State Members of Parliament' for the email and postal addresses of your local State Member
  • Remember, we don't have much time
